Who Are We?
Drawn to the easy access to world class outdoor activities, adventure athletes and outdoor enthusiasts flock to Hood River, Oregon where the Kayak Shed acts as headquarters.
The image above tells it all. Its taken from from the north side of the Columbia River looking directly at Hood River with Mount Hood in the back ground. We are a town of active outdoors people located in a crucible of an out door mecca. Drawing from that pool we simmer it down to the most passionate kayakers focused on making your water adventures the best they can be.
The dedicated and passionate staff at the Kayak Shed are not just there to help out, they are happy to. Their knowledge is experience based as they are athletes and outdoor lovers themselves, testing new gear and equipment every chance they get. They may even try to convince you to take their place in the shop if you stop in following a big rain (when the rivers are pumping) or on a bluebird powder day. They love gear, love using it, and are excited to talk about it if you give them the chance.
This great culture of the Kayak Shed is easy to understand once you meet owner and head adventurer John Hart. John encourages his employees to get down and dirty with the products in the shop so they can offer the best guidance and advice to those who seek it. If he is not in his office making customer’s days he can be found on the river, mountain or trail with a big ol’ grin.

We were lucky to have the Jackson-Troutman clan in the Gorge for a few weeks recently and, after seeing Emily juggle a preschooler, a baby, a moving home, business commitments and still getting time on the water, we couldn’t think of anyone better for a Mother’s Day Q&A. A professional paddler for most of her life, […]
